LISTENING TO YOU ABOUT GMO LABELING -
We have two goals: to make products that meet the highest standards of quality and food safety, and to satisfy our consumers’ needs. All the ingredients we use in our products comply with our own strict internal quality and safety requirements, plus all applicable laws and regulations.
PROTECTING ANIMALS WITH RESPONSIBLE SCIENCE -
We love animals, and we take animal welfare very seriously. Just look at Banfield®, our chain of veterinary clinics that provide veterinary services, preventive pet care and wellness plans. Or our pet innovation centers, where our pets tell us whether they like the food we make, and we can study if it’s nutritious for them. And many of our Associates bring their furry friends to work with them every day. At Mars, animals are part of the family.
PROTECTING THE RAINFORESTS -
Palm oil trees are an amazing natural resource. High-yielding and land-efficient, the crop can bring great wealth to some of the world’s poorest regions — when it’s done right. Unfortunately, the rapid expansion of palm oil plantations is threatening environmentally sensitive areas of tropical rainforest and carbon-rich peat lands. In some cases, the rights of communities that depend on those forests and lands for their livelihoods have been threatened. Labor violations have been found on some palm oil plantations.
The business philosophy of Mars, Incorporated is deeply rooted in our Five Principles of Quality, Responsibility, Mutuality, Efficiency and Freedom. The Principles are the foundation of our Human Rights Policy. In accordance with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, this Policy is informed by the International Bill of Human Rights and the International Labour Organization's 1998 Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, as described below.
WORKING WITH COCOA FARMERS FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE -
Each delicious bite of chocolate starts somewhere. You may not know it, but your chocolate bar began in the hands of one of five million small-scale farmers in parts of West Africa, Southeast Asia and the Americas. From cocoa seed to your mouth takes a lot of work. These farmers continually struggle with unproductive, aging cocoa trees they can’t afford to replace. Their yields, incomes and quality of life are in decline.
